Let me make the songs of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws

Let me make the songs of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws.

Let me make the songs of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws

It is an oft attributed quote to the 18th-century Scottish writer and politician Andrew Fletcher.

Cyril Applebaum quotes it in this article:

“This week American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and actor Prince Rogers Nelson died at his home/office in Chanhassen, Minnesota.” April 22, 2016

This article goes on to discuss the lyrics of his songs.

It ends with: “There is no doubt that Prince was gifted in the arts, and uncompromising in his belief of freedom, but what is in doubt is the truth and goodness of his lyrics, and the worldview and lifestyle he endorsed by his actions and words.”

So, Let me ask you, Do the lyrics of your music matter to you? Do you even listen to them, or just the beat? Are they God-honoring? Leave me a comment and let me know how your music affects you or your life.
