The Privilege of Being Led

Even though I profess to be a submissive wife – and I usually make every effort to submit, I have to admit that when I read this line in my devotion I cringed inside just a bit. I don’t naturally think of being led as a privilege – I think of leading as a privilege.

“When we willfully go our own way, we have no testimony to the faithfulness of God’s direction. By our headstrong action we have deprived ourselves of the unique privilege of being led.” Watchman Nee

Even though I profess to be a submissive wife – and I usually make every effort to submit, I have to admit that when I read this line in my devotion I cringed inside just a bit. I don’t naturally think of being led as a privilege – I think of leading as a privilege.

So what does that do to my heart when it comes to submitting to God or to my husband? I look at the words willfully and headstrong in the above quote and wonder – when I don’t submit is it really just a slip, like I tend to think, or is it willful and headstrong as Watchman Nee suggests?

It’s taken me about 15 minutes to move on to this next paragraph, meanwhile the Lord has convinced me that my actions are indeed willful and headstrong – choosing my own way.

Look at the results:
•I have no testimony to the faithfulness of God’s direction.
•I have deprived myself of the unique privilege of being led.

I can think of others of my own:
•Disappointing and frustrating my husband.
•Thwarting and frustrating the Lord’s plans.

Oh Lord, help me to see the privilege you have set before me – the privilege of being led, by You and by my dear husband.  Help me to submit my willful and headstrong heart to Your ways and Your plans so that I will truly have a testimony to the faithfulness of Your direction.

    Phyllis,
This was a big deal for me to read today! I have really struggled with trusting the leading ( I guess due to past disappointments) But I need to keep seeing the Blessing in Laying down the worry and letting God lead me through My Husband and the leaders He Brings our way.
We are still looking to were this might be. We went to a Church were old friends are Pastors….Praying into What might be best….even moving cities!
I really need to trust Husband and God to Lead Me and the Family through him!
Bless You for sharing this….I needed it today!

Wow! Could you have lovingly smacked me much harder. LOL

Thank you so much for sharing this Phyllis. This is exactly where I am at right now and is just confirmation of what the Lord showed me last night. I will probably share more in our prayer accountability room later tonight because I honestly need to get back to work right now.

Thank you so much for allowing the Lord to use you in such an awesome way. Your obediance not only helps the Lord in “Leading” you, but He is also using you as a tool to “Lead” those that are seeking to be “Lead by Him”.

Proverbs 3:6 – In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

May God’s peace, wisdom, and understanding Bless you and your family.
