That seems to be a funny title for a post, but that’s what came to mind as I started to write about my experiences yesterday. I recently joined a group of women who are exercising using T-Tapp so besides the heat, humidity, errands, and having the house painted, my thoughts were on getting my workout done so I could mark it on my little chart.
What I didn’t know was that the next couple of hours would provide a physical, mental, emotional, and yes, even a spiritual workout that would be a lot more than I had hoped for.
It all began very innocently.
I would run errands and the painters would paint.
Sounds simple enough – right?
But, when the painters plugged in their sprayer they blew a circuit breaker.
It just happened to be the one that controlled my garage door opener.
I don’t have a key to the house on my key ring.
My son didn’t have his key ring along.
The lock box was taken off the house so the painters wouldn’t paint over it.
My husband doesn’t have a house key on his key ring either, because he always uses the garage door opener too.
The result: I was locked out of the house with a van full of groceries – including ice cream, because its 90 degrees and humid and I knew we’d be wanting a cold dessert.
It seems that all of us had suddenly learned to lock all the doors when we left – leaving home with doors unlocked has been a problem that we were working on.
We tried every door and window, but because it was 90 degrees and humid all the windows were tightly closed and locked so that we wouldn’t air condition the outdoors – another thing we were working on.
My son walked around the house a dozen times trying to get in somewhere. He even used the painter’s ladder to see if any windows could be opened from the outside.
I finally called the local police who were able to give me the name of a local locksmith who would come out and break into our house for only $50.
When he arrived and walked around the house several times to try all the doors and windows I remembered that within the last year we had installed all new doors.
Those new doors had new pick-proof locks.
Not even a locksmith could pick those pick-proof locks!
The good news is that our house is really burglar proof.
Now I had the opportunity to pay the locksmith $100 to drill my new pick-proof lock out of my new door.
Our only other option would have been to break a double-paned window, which would have cost a lot more to replace and couldn’t have been done right away.
I was able to exercise my emotions by using self-control to not get angry about my situation.
I was able to exercise my mind by controlling my thoughts about what my dear husband would have to say about all of this – and how much this was going to cost.
I was able to exercise my body by walking around and around the house, up and down the lovely rolling hills that surround it – and sweat profusely – because its 90 degrees and humid.
I met a very nice local locksmith who gave us good advice on buying new locks.
And I really appreciated my air conditioned house when I finally got inside – about two hours later.
And yes, I did have some ice cream!
Time really flies when you’re having fun – and exercising.
