Several days ago I was struck by these words of Watchman Nee, “Man has not the power to obtain anything more than God has given, but he has the option of taking less.” (A Table in the Wilderness)

I was fairly comfortable with the first part – my failures of the past have left me knowing full well my inability to obtain more than God has given. It was the second part that struck me – “but he has the option of taking less.”
As I pondered these words I began to ask the Lord to show me where I take less than He offers. Immediately words popped into my mind – love, joy, peace, gentleness, faith, patience, kindness, security, steadfastness – my mind raced as the list grew. My thoughts stopped on joy. Suddenly I wanted more joy – I wanted all the joy the Lord had to offer me. I imagined what my days would be like if I were truly filled with the joy of the Lord. My heart seemed to skip a beat as I pictured myself so filled with joy that I couldn’t contain it all – that it overflowed to everyone I met. I’ve had moments like that, but days, weeks, months? Was that possible? Was that what the Lord had in mind for me?

My mind wandered back to those words, “but he has the option of taking less.” I’m afraid I’ve exercised that option more times than I care to admit.
What is missing in your life? Might I suggest you take a few minutes to ask the Lord? Why not take all the Lord is offering you – today! There really is no reason to wait.

Galatians 5:22 – 23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
