One of my favorite TV characters said this in a recent episode. (I’ll send anyone who knows who said it a free copy of my new Dan’s Doodles II coloring book. And if you know who he said it to, I’ll give you a copy of my e-book Memory Making Made Easy.) E-mail your answer to: Phyllis@Phyllis-Sather.com It made me laugh then, but now that I’ve had time to think about it I find that it is exactly how I feel about waiting on the Lord. I want to wait faster!
The Psalms are full of passages that encourage us to wait upon the Lord:
Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
Psalm 37:7 “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.”
Right now I’m caught in a waiting time on several fronts. Why does waiting seem to take so long?
I think it’s partially because we feel so powerless. Waiting usually implies that we’ve done all we can do and now it’s up to someone else — in my case, the Lord.
Being powerless isn’t a feeling most of us enjoy, but the Lord has made many promises for those of us who make the choice to wait on Him. One of my favorites is this:
Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Scripture also talks about the Lord waiting on us:
Isaiah 30:18 “And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.”
And the rewards of waiting on the Lord are many:
Romans 5:3-5 “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”
So I’m making a choice to wait on the Lord, but I’d still like to wait faster!
