Katie Hornor just released her latest book Putting on the Spirit yesterday,
and I giving away the English Kindle copy for only one day.
Katie is a missionary wife, mother, and teacher. She, her husband Tap, and their four children have lived in Mexico since 2007. They homeschool their four children and minister through church planting, Bible training, bookstore ministry, and homeschool curriculum development.
Katie blogs three to four times a week at Paradise Praises and hopes to encourage women in their marriages, parenting, homeschooling, and ministry.
Katie has written two other books, Loving You Long Distance and Divine Design, available for purchase via this link. If you have interest in strengthening long distance relationships or need help setting priorities, these books have gems hidden within to help you out! She is also the author of the Lemonhass homeschool curriculum for Spanish Speaking families.
About the book: Putting On The Spirit: Ten-Minute Devotionals for Busy Moms is a relatively short book, 49 pages, but it is packed with encouraging truths from God’s Word.
She spends three to five days on each fruit of the spirit from Galatians 5:2-23 with a Scripture, short teaching, and application. Using the free printable English workbook which is downloadable from Katie’s website makes it easy to follow along with the daily application.
My Review: I was blessed with this concise study of the fruits of the spirit. I found the daily applications easy to complete and felt like I’ve had a good “take-away” each day, something I could mull over or challenge myself to do like choosing to maintain a good attitude, or choosing joy when I didn’t feel joyful.
One part that stands out to me is the combining of the fruits, individual, yet part of the whole. Katie describes it here:
“There is a reason it is called the fruit (singular) of the Spirit. Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance are not separate fruits but all a part of one fruit.
This is not a fruit-basket life where we can pick and choose which part of Christlikeness we want to put on. No, this is more like an orange, where each virtue is a different slice of the orange. You must have all the slices together and in their places to have a whole, complete orange.
Having some of all of these characteristics in your life is outward proof of the indwelling of God’s Spirit, which takes place at the time of salvation and adoption.”
I can whole-hardheartedly recommend this book. Stop to pick up your copy while its free or tomorrow when it’s $.99. It’s a decision you won’t regret.
