Get Ready to Watch Those Children Grow! Part 2

Sometimes our children hear from the Lord before we do – especially when they are young adults who have been raised to love and serve the Lord. As they grow-up you find yourself working harder to keep up with them, even in hearing from the Lord.

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision,” said Helen Keller.

This is part two of a three part series. If you haven’t read part one you can do that here.

This can obviously be a blessing, but it did take us by surprise this year.

Emily, our oldest, and I had had several discussions over the years about how beneficial these planning times could be for individuals. We were seeking a way to write something for young adults that would help them to do their own personal planning while still being a part of the family unit and participating in plans for the family as well as themselves.

We felt it was a rather tenuous line and didn’t want to push them out to where they were just planning as individuals without remaining part of the family unit as long as they were unmarried and living at home.

We take the better part of one day to first pray and discuss one child, then get together with her/him and discuss where/what we see in their life, listen to them and pray for them. Much to our surprise we discovered that our two daughters were in the midst of their own planning time with the Lord. They were both evaluating every area of their lives, working on adjusting their schedules to what they thought the Lord was saying to them, and basically doing what Emily and I had discussed for several years.

It’s been a delight to see them walk out the plans they made during those days. They’ve made some well thought out changes to their schedules and are working together to accomplish more than I’ve ever seen them accomplish.  It’s been a delight to watch them blossom into lovely young ladies who are using these single years to serve the Lord.
