It’s difficult to believe that this was our 18th annual planning time. Yes, for the last 18 years, we’ve set aside time in January to pray and seek the Lord for His plans for our family.
So, you might ask, how is that working for you?
I’m so glad you asked. This was a difficult year. As usual we spent the first day reviewing last years’ time and checking off the things we had accomplished. As we did that it became clear that we were not where we had hoped to be by this time. Yes, we had accomplished a number of things we thought the Lord had said to us, but so much remained undone.
I don’t know how else to describe it, other than we came to a place where we felt “broken”. When we met with our young adults for lunch we told them we have lots of questions, but felt like we had few answers.
That seemed to be a good place for us to be and we came home to our next session seeing even more need to seek the Lord and “hear” what He was saying to us as individuals and as a family.
Sometimes it’s easy to go through even good things like our annual evaluation and planning with a lackadaisical approach. Things become familiar and repetitious. This year was going to be different. There weren’t any easy answers. We were going to have to give the Lord our full attention if we were going to hear from Him.
