In Luke 17 Jesus tells the story of the ten lepers who were healed. Most of you will be familiar with that story. Ten were healed, but only one came back and expressed gratitude.
When I read that chapter this morning I noticed something else. It was while they were obeying that they were healed.
They didn’t argue with Jesus, after all they still had leprosy and He was telling them to go show themselves to the priest before they were healed. That must have taken faith. They had to believe in the possibility that they would be healed or they would look mighty foolish going to the priest to be declared clean.
“And when he saw [them], he said to them, Go, show yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass, that as they were going, they were cleansed.” – Luke 17:14 WEB
This made me think about the times the Lord asks me to do things that look impossible. I’m afraid I don’t usually just obey, but I tend to “discuss” it with Him a bit – otherwise known as arguing.
But I’m not…
But I can’t…
But I’m not good at…
But so and so would do it better…
Fill in the blank. I’ve used them all.
But the Word says, “And it came to pass, that as they were going, they were cleansed.”

This is beautiful, Phyllis. Kind of reminds me of Moses and all the excuses he gave to God, lol!
Years ago when my hubby was called to be a pastor I said to the Lord, “Lord, you DO know that I’m going with him, right? You call him, You call me. You do know that I’ll be the pastor’s wife, right? ME. You know that, right?????”
My “pastor’s wife kit” didn’t come with the ability to play the piano,or being meek and humble and perfect, and being gracious and always knowing just exactly the right word to say in any situation, and everything else I hoped would come with being the “perfect” pastor’s wife. Because I can’t be perfect. Neither can you or anyone else.
I am not perfect but I have a perfect God!
But whom God calls, He equips! So I know that I have everything He wants me to have in my role as a pastor’s wife. Now if I could just play the piano……..Thanks so much for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday!
Phyllis
I love the thought of your “pastor’s wife kit”. I have a picture in my mind of you and your little black bag. Funny!
Thanks for stopping by and making me smile. I’m sure you are a delightful pastor’s wife, even if you can’t play the piano.
Blessings, Phyllis
