Having a New Baby

You remember well those first months of having a new baby – right? I know I do. Sleepless nights turn into groggy days, piles of never ending laundry, quick, easy meals grabbed on the run, and the joy of watching your new baby all blend into one.You remember well those first months of having a new baby – right? I know I do. Sleepless nights turn into groggy days, piles of never ending laundry, quick, easy meals grabbed on the run, and the joy of watching your new baby all blend into one.

I remember Dan saying he didn’t realize how long it took to watch a baby when we found ourselves spending hours just watching our first born, Emily. Everything she did captivated us.

Other than the piles of laundry this scenario is repeating itself during the first week of having our new puppy. It really has a lot in common with having a baby.

Our children are old enough to take full responsibility for Captain and are doing an excellent job. It’s been fun listening to them talk and hearing the similarities to conversations about new babies.

Sleeping through the night, going potty outside, not taking what doesn’t belong to him – these and many more things are being taught and talked about.

He’s too little to be left alone so we always have to take him with us or leave someone home to watch him until we get him crate trained and we can leave him for a longer period of time.

Sounds a lot like having a new born, doesn’t it? He relies on us for everything. He trusts us to do what is good for him.

As I’ve spent time thinking about human babies and puppy babies, I’ve been reminded of all the things the Lord does to care for us.

“[Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” – Hebrews 13:5 KJV Like I said, our puppy is much too little to be left alone yet, even so the Lord has promised never to leave us alone either.

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” – Psalm 32:8 KJV Someone is always keeping an eye on this little guy to make sure he isn’t getting into trouble.

“I [am] the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.” – Psalm 81:10 KJV Just as the Lord provides all we need, we carefully fee this puppy what is appropriate and good for him.

Promise after promise, and we can trust Him to fulfill them all. When I remember looking at our babies with a heard bursting with love and see how much our children love this puppy I find my thinking that I am just catching a glimpse of how much the Lord loves and cares for me.

In closing I wanted to share an article with you that I found particularly helpful this week.
