Rushing to pick up my son by the time he got off work, I turned sooner than I needed to and there it was – a beautiful old brick mansion up high on a hill.
I couldn’t give it more than a glance as I passed trying to figure out how to get back on the correct route.
At home I looked it up on the internet and found that it might be just the thing that our daughters would love.
- It had a little coffee shop.
- Some girly gift shops.
- And was only about fifteen minutes from our home.
Dan had a day off soon after that. We conspired to take the girls there for lunch since Eric would be working and wouldn’t have been interested anyway.
It was everything I hoped it would be.
Our waitress (and manager of the building) told us the history of the house, and even said she lives on the third floor which used to be the ball room. We lazily looked through the gift shops and found a couple of items we let Dad purchase for us.
An added bonus is that they do afternoon teas. We’ve wanted a place for so long that we could invite friends to for a relaxing afternoon of being pampered and chatting the hours away and this seems to be just the place.
I was reminded of a recent situation where I was certain the Lord had taken me on a wrong turn. I didn’t get the answer I wanted and it seemed so wrong.
[Tweet “I didn’t get the answer I wanted and it seemed so wrong.”]
But God in His wisdom wanted me to go in a different direction. Sometimes I don’t always see the “why” in His choice. I’m learning to trust Him to make better choices than I do.
Does that ever happen to you?
His Word says,
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4 ESV
But I often forget that He waits for my desires to become His desires so he can give me His best. Join me as I ask the Lord to change my heart so His desires are mine too.

Phyllis, how wonderful to meet you this week at Coffee for your heart. Thank you for the reminder that our heavenly Father knows the desires of our hearts and seeks to grant those desires, even if it seems we are off course.
