Blogs to Bless You

I've been doing my annual purge of our file cabinets, not one of my favorite things to do, but when my dear husband decided to paint my little office work space and put up a new light fixture it encouraged me to keep going and get with my new neater look.

Before

I’ve been doing my annual purge of our file cabinets, not one of my favorite things to do, but when my dear husband decided to paint my little office work space and put up a new light fixture it encouraged me to keep going and get with my new neater look.

I’ve filled two grocery bags with paper to recycle, two tall kitchen can sized garbage bags with shredded papers and one bag to take to take to Savers. I even bought a new desk chair and scavenged a lamp that wasn’t being used from another desk. I have a picture I will have Dan hang above my desk tonight.

This was one of the projects we had decided to do during our planning time in January. It always blesses me when Dan jumps right into projects we’ve talked about. The girls will have him do some painting in their room too and they will do some much needed organizing too. We do consider this school since we hope our daughters will be caring for their own homes someday and the skills they learn here will serve them well when that happens. A lifestyle of learning turns everyday things into learning experiences.

I didn’t get a good before photo, but take my word, there was a mess. I had piles all over my desk and there was no breathing room on any of my shelves.

After

I’m hoping to attack my bedroom drawers before I totally run out of inspiration.
So instead of writing something today I’m going to share two posts I saw this week that really encouraged me.

The first is a video of a Super Bowl ad. I was raised on subsistence farming and farmers have a special place in my heart.

What a beautiful, cozy place to work! I’ve gotten hooked on a lot of the HGTV shows where they redesign houses. Though we don’t have the money to do any major projects like that, it still inspires me to at least stay on top of the clutter so that our house looks like a home. With working f/t outside the home, I really do need my house to be my sanctuary when I walk in the back door. If I come home and there is clutter everywhere, school books all over the house, etc., it immediately leaves me feeling stressed out. Not a good way to greet my loved ones!

Love your new look in your office! Looks fabulous and just makes you want to sit down and start writing, doesn’t it??

It does – now if I could just find time. I do find that I’m being much more productive. I think its because I’m not distracted by all my “to do” piles. I’ve set up files so I can put things away and put dates on my calendar to remind me to work on things rather than just having them all on my desk so I don’t forget.

Thanks for stopping by. Prayers for cleaning my closet would be appreciated. It’s where we store everything so it will be a huge challenge.

Phyllis…I love that yellow paint you chose, subtle yet inviting. Your make over is just beautiful.

Thank you. I’ve always been rather scared to make such bold changes but all the encouragement has made me want to try more color in our house.

I love your nice clean desk! I am always fighting the clutter around here. You are fortunate that Dan jumps right in on those projects! Mine would rather be on his computer like me!

Thanks. Dan is a blessing. He doesn’t always get things done that quickly, but when he has a day off he always asks me what he can do for me. He works on computers all day so it glad to be off of them when he’s home, much to my pleasure.

Thanks for stopping – good to “meet” you.

Thanks. I’ve hung a picture above my desk since that photo was taken so it looks even cozier.
What a fun site you have! I’ll have fun exploring it.

I love your workspace. I’m sure it makes you feel organized and “bright.” You have a sweet husband like I do, always helping me.

Its really a deep gold, but looks like different colors depending on the light at the time. It’s a very cheerful place to work. Thanks for stopping by.

Oh what a lovely office you have made for yourself! I love the bright sunny color, and how fun to have those bookshelves so nearby. What a sweet hubby you have!

Thank you for sharing those links as well, I shall have to look at them later when I have time (I am leaving in ten minutes, lol!) Also, thanks for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday!

Thanks for stopping by Tara. I never thought of pinning that picture, but it is a good idea. It doesn’t really show how small an area it is – just a little alcove in our bedroom but its open so I don’t feel closed in.

It’s great that the organization is spilling over to your kids. It is a great education. Happy Friendship Friday!

I’m hoping that continues. I think its contagious – when you show someone what you’ve done, and it looks nice, it creates a desire in them to do something too.

I enjoy organizing so sometimes it becomes difficult for me to call it quits and actually get back to work. I’m on a roll, so I’m hoping to finish up a few more areas before I quit. Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a thoughtful comment.

    Phyllis,
Always good to clear away old stuff – it clears the mind to make way for new ideas. Praying that you will be blessed with this new clear space. I am terrible with getting papers all over my desk. I am attempting to work “tighter” so less room to throw things. 🙂 I must remember to “put things away”.
Thanks for linking to Wednesday’s Word.. and for the links to others who speak God’s Word.
    Blessings,
    Janis

Thanks Pamela – I did get to keep the painter. He wasn’t the messy part of the room. It actually looked better the moment I got everything off my desk!

Regardless of what the before was like, the after is awesome. What a nice place to have for an office. I love being inspired to organize and clean out.
