When the cover says “A Journey into the World of Authentic Latin American Cuisine” they aren’t joking. I love to read recipe books, but I got carried away reading the descriptions and information on the countries before I was able to stop long enough to look at the recipes.

Note to homeschool moms – you could easily use this book to study Latin American countries and make some of the food from each one.

Now for the recipes – I really enjoy food from different countries, but often when I attempt to make something authentic the recipe contains things I’ve never heard of, or have difficulty finding in my local store.

Now many stores have sections for food from different countries so that makes it easier. But Shirley makes it even easier by giving you the pronunciation and a description of food items that the reader may not be familiar with – again, great for you homeschool moms.

For instance – Tomatillos are small green tomatoes. With that description I at least have some idea what I’m to look for.

I know ebooks are popular now, but holding this hard copy with its glossy pages and delightful photos might make you want to invest in it. This would make a great addition to your recipe book collection or a nice Christmas gift for a sister or friend.

We are looking forward to trying many of these recipes. We made the tacos and even our picky eaters liked them. Next we are trying the Lomo Saltado. The beautiful photos have attracted several family members who are now making suggestions for what they would like to try.
