The last day of our planning time this year was Monday. We took five days this year and found it wasn’t one hour too long to accomplish all we hoped to do. We still have a couple of topics we didn’t get to, but hope to spend some time on them during our weekly date.
It was a fruitful time. We managed to make many decisions, and discussed several touchy subjects, and are still speaking to each other.
I can just hear some of you saying, “We don’t have five days to just talk!” Well, we don’t either — that’s why these planning times are so important. We actually use vacation days for this because it has been that helpful to us.
Others have done their planning in a variety of ways. There really is no one “right” way. Here are some examples:
Use one evening per week, for several weeks, and discuss a couple of topics each week. Make it your special time after the children are in bed.
One couple told me they have a motor home, so they went there for a couple of hours for several days and left one of the older children in charge. They were alone, yet close enough in case they were needed.
Use several Saturdays or Sundays. Set them aside as the time you will plan. Perhaps you could work with another couple and exchange babysitting or get a grandparent to watch the little ones.
The way you do it isn’t as important as doing it! Purposeful Planning lays out a plan so all you have to do is make time to seek the Lord.
Now for another topic that is near and dear to my heart — organizing and being frugal. My husband says no one enjoys a bargain like I do, and I’m definitely a “place for everything and everything in its place” type of person. In a couple of weeks I will be interviewing Molly Green — the queen of being frugal and organized— for an article on my site.
What have you always wanted to know about Molly? What would you ask her if you could have some time with her?
Send me your questions — either post a comment, drop me a note on Facebook, or an email to Phyllis@Phyllis-Sather.com
