How To Live More Intentionally

Work for our dreams intentionally

Living more intentionally is hard work

So if you aren’t ready to make some sacrifices of time, energy, and possibly money, you should not consider it.

There is no magic pill that will just make you more intentional in all you do.

Praying during our planning times helps us make decisions about ways we want to be more intentional. Asking the Lord about what He wants us to do with different areas of our lives keeps us going in the right direction.

What then?

Having ideas and direction are no good unless you implement them.

“The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.“[Psa 121:8 NKJV]

  • You can start small to avoid being overwhelmed.
  • Make small intentional choices every day.
    • Base them on the choices you made when you were planning.
  • Think before you act.
    • If you are saving for a family vacation you might want to have hamburgers instead of steak.
  • Pray for your choices.
    • Asking the Lord to guide you is a great way to stay on track.
    • I actually pray before going into any store.
  • Keep a journal.
  • Stop and evaluate often.
    • It will encourage everyone if you evaluate together.
      • For example – “We have half the money saved that we need to go….!” Or saying something similar to your family will get everyone onboard again with saving.
  • Remind yourself why you are doing this.
  • Surround yourself with like-minded people.
    • Having a family goal and working intentionally together on it can really form a special bond.
  • Do it anyway.
  • Ge gracious and forgiving with yourself.
    • You WILL fall – more than once if you are human.
    • Pick yourself up and start again.
  • Notice even small changes.
    • Pennies make nickles, nickles make dimes, dimes make dollars.
  • Review your intentions regularly.
  • Remember this is a journey.
    • There are things on our planning list that will probably never happen, but there are also things on our list that wouldn’t have happened if they weren’t there. Many things in our lives started out as an idea during a planning weekend. Some took years of praying and planning, but they happened.

Next week I’ll have a workbook to go along with planning to live more intentionally. For now, I’ve included a form for you to keep track of what intentional things you do this week.  Living With Purpose
