Is Anyone Suffering? Thoughts on our Current Crisis

I can think of dozens of applications for this font - I'm sure you can too.

“God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains; it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

C S LEWIS

I don’t know about you, but I’m just plain tired of listening to the news. It seems like each day brings new stories of suffering because of our current economic crisis.

I constantly ask myself, “What do people who don’t know the Lord do when situations like this arise?”

As believers we don’t have to suffer alone – we can turn to the Lord. But we still struggle with the why. Why do believers suffer?

I found this quote from “Does God Care When We Suffer?” by cancer survivor Randy Becton helpful.

“Doesn’t God care when we suffer? Of course he does. Then why doesn’t he do something about it? He did. Randy Becton sums it up this way:

The answer is the cross of Jesus Christ.… From now on all human suffering must be understood in the light of his suffering; it is the source of meaning, hope, and new life for sufferers. When someone cries out, “He doesn’t care. He’s immune to pain,” they are brought to the foot of the cross to see for themselves.… The cross and resurrection hold the key to the mystery of suffering. “*

So fellow believers, let’s take a fresh look at what we are suffering in light of the cross and resurrection. God does care and Heunderstands more than anyone else can.
