Due to several projects I’ve had going, there has been little time to think ahead to Thanksgiving – yet! We’ve invited family to our home and I’ve talked with our grandchildren to see what favorite foods they want us to make, but other than that I’ve been quite wrapped up in my own world of unfinished and needing to be finished projects.
I have however been reading a little brochure by Life Action Ministries – Life Action Ministries titled “30 Days of Gratitude – A Daily Guide for Thanksgiving.” It’s a simple tri-fold brochure that lists a Scripture for each day about something for which to be thankful, beginning with Salvation. As I’ve read and meditated on a verse each day during my quiet time, I’ve begun to feel more thankful, even during the busyness.
I collect quotes and my daughter Emily sent me a very appropriate one this week that I want to share with you, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Author Unknown
I’ve been learning to dance in the rain a bit this week – being thankful in spite of having lots to do, spending time with a friend during very trying circumstances, facing some disappointments, and reminding both of us that God is Sovereign, even when we can’t see the “why.”
This morning I read in “My Utmost for His Highest” by Oswald Chambers –
“It is one thing to go through a crisis grandly, but another thing to go through every day glorifying God when there is no witness, no limelight, no one paying the remotest attention to us.”
That is exactly where we moms, and especially stay-at-home/homeschool moms land. There is no witness, no limelight, and oftentimes we feel that no one is paying the least attention to all that we are doing.
This is when I need to remind myself that I’m working for an audience of one – my Savior and Lord. No matter how hidden or menial the task may be, the Lord sees it all and one day I hope to hear Him say,
“Well done thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21
Notice, He says “servant”, not well-known public speaker, world-renowned author, or rich beautiful actress. I think he says “servant” because that is the role our Lord modeled for us and the role He wants us to play – whether we are well-known and in the public eye, or just the run-of-the-mill stay-at-home mom. We are to serve faithfully, thankfully, and joyfully in each task we are called to do.
Have a happy Thanksgiving.
