Welcome…

Welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by.   Photo of Phyllis Sather

My name is Phyllis and I’m a stay-at-home mom who homeschooled three of our children for 20+ years. I retired from a management position when our daughter Emily was born and never looked back. When the days get long or difficult, I always try to remind myself that this is what I’ve always wanted to be – a wife and a mother – and I thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity.

I took a rather circuitous route to my dream life. I spent many years doing my own thing, which included alcohol, drugs, and a very immoral lifestyle. By the time I was 20 I had placed my firstborn son for adoption, and I thought I had thrown away any chance I had of having my dreams come true. A brief marriage to an abusive alcoholic and the birth of my daughter followed quickly, then a divorce, and I was on my own again. I continued to think of giving my son away as my unforgivable sin (What mother could possibly give away her own child?) and I continued on my downward spiral until life became too difficult and I decided to end it.

At that point the Lord intervened and drew me out of the pit – “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, [and] established my goings.” Psalm 40:2, KJV

The next five years passed rapidly as the Lord put me back together again.

Then He gave me more than I ever imagined I would have when I met Dan and  after three years he asked me to marry him.

Welcome by Dan and Phyllis

And still more when we quickly had three children and two miscarriages in five years.

Welcome by our family

Has life been perfect?

No…we’ve faced cancer, miscarriages, long work hours, and tight finances, but in everything the Lord has been there to encourage us.

This is the first verse the Lord ever “gave” me. It’s still a favorite.

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fullness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore.” Psalm 16:11, KJV

I write to share the past as well as the ongoing story of the Lord’s faithfulness to me and my family – to encourage you that we are all ordinary women through whom our extraordinary God wants to do extraordinary things.
