How To Keep Produce Fresh As Long As Possible
For most of us, this is a season of having more fresh fruits and vegetables than usual. Along with that comes the problem of how to keep it fresh until we can use it.
In an effort not to waste my husband’s hard earned money, I’m constantly on the lookout for good ways to store fresh fruits and veggies.
My latest great find is how to keep strawberries – and it really works!
- Put them unwashed in a quart canning jar.
- Seal the lid tightly and put it in your refrigerator until you are ready to use them.
- I’ve kept them up to a week this way.
Vented containers
Recently companies began selling vented containers that promote keeping these items fresher longer.
I came across this article on refrigerator crisper drawers and discovered something I didn’t know. Most of our refrigerators have a built-in method to keep fruits and veggies fresher longer.
