How To Go From Grumbles To Gratitude

http://www.lorilaws.net/gallery/

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

My grumbles

We have lots of plans made to gather with family tomorrow. That is until people started getting sick and we got six inches of snow with more predicted.

They have restricted travel all over the US because of problem weather. Why? When everyone has plans for fun family times?

I don’t understand it at all. Doesn’t the Lord want us to gather? To strengthen family bonds by celebrating and being thankful together?

The short answer is yes. But I don’t understand all the difficulties totally out of human control.

What is a Christian to do when their plans are all messed up by the Lord? I like the verse on my graphic –

“Jesus replied, You do not realize now what I am doing. But later you will understand.” John 13:7

Today I’m ok with knowing later. How about you?

You can celebrate Thanksgiving and gratefulness anytime or anywhere.

My Gratitude

I have much to be thankful for this year. In the last 16 months, two of our children have gotten married to spouses who love the Lord. Our son and his wife gave birth to a new granddaughter who has stolen everyone’s heart. Our children are all following the Lord! That alone would be enough to fill my thankful tank.

If we spend the day alone – I will rejoice and be grateful.

If we spend the day with extended family – I will rejoice and be grateful.

I think back to the Daniel 3 Scripture that has become our family’s firm position. Perhaps you are familiar with it.

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

Dan and I used those verses to make a commitment to the Lord when our son Eric had leukemia. We knew God could heal him with a miracle or with doctors and medicine. But if not, we committed to staying faithful to the Lord. Here is a post about that but if not… Finding Joy in the Journey
