How Do You Celebrate Amazing Accomplishments?

We just celebrated our 30th anniversary. Today that is an amazing accomplishment. In my parents day it was a normal part of life.

We just celebrated our 30th anniversary. Today that is an amazing accomplishment. In my parents day it was a normal part of life. Marriage commitments were forever. Growing up I didn’t have one friend from a single parent home, although one of my best friend’s parents separated the day she graduated. But that was rare, not normal.

We took several days away by ourselves – what a difference it makes when your young adults are finally able to stay home alone for several days. What a blessing it is to be able to trust them while you’re gone. One of ours said they were going to “break out the Sprite” and have a party.

It was a low key weekend, my favorite kind. We stayed in a nice bed and breakfast that turned out to be owned by believers. The next night we stayed in a historic hotel.

We also exchanged cards – which to me was quite revealing. Let me show you…

Mine to him has poetry, Scripture, and special thoughts. His to me is simple and direct – “I love you. Sometimes even a man of few words can still find the right ones.” While he probably won’t remember much of what my card said, I have memorized everything his card said.

It brought to mind this verse – “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.” Proverbs 10:19 KJV

There was nothing wrong with the card I chose – I read it carefully before buying it, but I can certainly learn from my husband that it often takes fewer words than I’m tempted to use.

“Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD, keep watch over the door of my lips!” Psalms 141:3
