If you remember, at the end of my post a week ago or so, I had gotten all these boxes out of our storage area and planned to shred what we didn’t need. – Here is the stack I started with. Ten boxes full of tax papers and information.
I had paperwork from as far back as 1998.
After shredding everything but the last seven years I’m down to 3 boxes, and one of these includes some of the older files from the first file drawer I cleaned out.
One thing I did save was our check book registers. I decided to do that after Dan’s father died. He saved his and we had a great time looking back to see what things cost in the 1940’s and 1950’s. I remember him telling me how they saved up to buy a garden hose.
When I took this photo I thought I was done, but I managed to dispose of 15 bags of shredded papers when I cleaned our remaining three file drawers. It wouldn’t fit in our garbage/recycling dumpsters so we’ll have to get rid of more next week. The only part we kept were the two bins on the right.
One of my children once asked me why I thought clean was right. I responded because God is a God of order.
“Let all things be done decently and in order.”Co 14:40 KJV
Don’t you just feel better when things are orderly? I know I do.
What’s next? My closet! I’m too embarrassed to post a before photo so at this point I’ll wait and see how it looks when I finish. I’ve already taken a bag full of clothes out and have quite a mess going on in our room right now.
If the spring cleaning bug has bitten you please share your projects.

You are inspiring. My spring cleaning bug will be biting me soon. I’m making plans in my head as to what I need to do. I’m sure it will take me a month or so, once I get started. I’m planning to clean out the kitchen, paint & put in new contact paper. It hasn’t been done for over 15 years when we first moved into this house. I was hoping we’d be able to remodel by now, but I need to just do this. A good cleaning, purge & fresh coat of paint always does me good. 🙂

Thanks Dawnita. I’m glad I’m inspiring someone. I work at it slowly but try to be steady.

Amen Katie. I’m trying to part with everything that doesn’t fit. Wait until you see how much I removed to my closet.

I’m working on my closet too now that I conquered a lot of the paper monster.

I was inspired (while searching for creative ideas to inspire teens during Lent)–by 40bagsIn40 days!
Great way to teach simpler living while spring cleaning. ( http://www.whitehouseblackshutters.com/40-bags-in-40-days-2014/ )-
(BTW–the children were not nearly as inspired by this–but Mother was !!)
Blessings/
