No fair trying to find it on Google!
This interesting piece of fruit caused Emily and me to splurge way beyond anything we had planned.
We were looking at fruit and she saw a sign that said “Dragon Fruit.” Since she is interested in dragons, it was natural for her to get a closer look. She called me over and we decided it would be an adventure to try it.
It certainly was.
When we got to the checkout with our couple of items, we were shocked at the total. That’s when we discovered that dragon fruit costs $6.95 a pound and ours cost over $8.
No, it isn’t bigger than a watermelon—it’s about the size of a grapefruit.
We decided to go for it! I said, “I hope we like it, but not so much that we want to buy more.”
At home we had to look on the internet to find our what to do with it.
Dragon fruit tastes wonderful! Sweet and crunchy, with a flavor that’s like a cross between kiwi and pear.

I’ve seen dragonfruit in the grocery, because my daughter also enjoys dragons. Then I saw the price and walked past, good for you for taking the plunge. It sounds delicious. Maybe we will have to try it sometime. I will have to research how to tell when a dragon fruit is ripe though, wouldn’t do to get a dud.

There are a lot of instructions online – http://thaifood.about.com/od/introtothaicooking/ss/dragonfruit.htm
I was already checking out when we discovered the price otherwise I certainly would have thought twice before purchasing it. Our daughter loves dragons too, one of the reasons it caught our eye.

I’ve had Dragon Fruit and loved it. We were at a missions conference international dinner and it was there. I loved it, my husband not as much as I did. No one carries them around here, but hopefully when we go to Billings, I’ll be able to find one – a treat for me. Thank you for linking up with Thankful Thursdays.

I’d never seen it before either and was surprised to find something so exotic looking at our little local grocery. Thanks for stopping by.
